US President Joe Biden has said he will not lift economic sanctions on Iran if it does not comply with the terms of the 2015 nuclear deal.
According to the BBC, Biden made the remarks in an interview with CBS News on Sunday.
But Iran’s supreme religious leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, says the United States must lift all economic sanctions first. Only then will Tehran abide by the terms of the nuclear deal.
In 2015, Iran, along with the United States, eased economic sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program.
However, former US President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the deal in 2018 and imposed new sanctions on Iran. That is why Iran has backtracked on its promise to limit its nuclear program.
Iran claims its nuclear program is for “peace,” but it is increasing its stockpile of enriched uranium.
